Volunteer Opportunities

Hospitality

Preview Parties – Various dates and locations prior to each classical season concert (several on Sunday). Several days before each WSO concert, the Council hosts an informal social in a private home at which we hear insights about the composers and the pieces to be performed. These also serve as our General Council Meetings. Help is needed to organize, serve, bring food, and tidy-up after each event. Jennifer Richie, VP Social

Patron Dinner – Thursday, February 8, 2024, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Ridgewood Country Club. Held to show appreciation to our members who purchase season tickets to the WSO concerts at a Patron level or higher. Assistance is needed in planning and organizing this event. Jennifer Richie, VP Social; Glenda Strum, Patron Dinner Chair

Youth and Education Programs

Children’s Concert – Tuesday, September 26, 2023, 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 1:15 p.m. Each year the Baylor Symphony Orchestra holds several concerts in one day at Waco Hall to provide orchestral music in an age-appropriate event for all area 4th & 5th graders. WSC volunteers organize and coordinate with the area schools whose students might not otherwise have an opportunity to hear a live symphony orchestra in a concert hall. Assistance is needed in greeting and ushering at the concert. Lisa Alcorn, VP Youth Programs

Nutcracker Volunteers –Saturday and/or Sunday, December 9-10, 2023. (TWO PERFORMANCES THIS YEAR!) WSC volunteers assist local student dancers as backstage volunteers, including directional assistance, simple help with dressing, and being a helpful chaperone. Others are needed to help set up and sell merchandise at the Nutcracker Store in the lobby of Waco Hall before the performances and during intermission (possibly afterwards if merchandise still remains). NEW THIS YEAR: assisting with set up, serving refreshments, and line management at the Sugar Plum Fairy and Cavalier Prince post-ballet party on Sunday afternoon. Lisa Alcorn, VP Youth Programs

Belles and Brass – Various dates for meetings – Presentation and Gala, Saturday, March 16, 2024. Juniors from area high schools will be presented at a gala. Girls (Belles) enroll as sophomores and continue through their junior year. Boys (Brass) enroll and serve their junior year. Belles & Brass serve as concert greeters, experience a multi-course etiquette dinner, music education, and leadership skills training. These young people are sponsored by their parents or grandparents who are WSO season ticket holders at the Sustainer Level or higher. Brandi Ray and Deanna Starling, co-VPs Belles and Brass

FUNDRAISING

Symphony Gala – Saturday, March 16, 2024. The WSC will present an exciting fundraiser following the Belles & Brass presentation, complete with dancing, auction and wine pull. Attendees can opt to attend the presentation or just the gala. Assistance is needed to organize and execute the gala. Heather Beck, VP Fundraising
