Volunteer Opportunities

Hospitality

Preview Parties – (different dates and locations prior to each regular season concert). Several days before each WSO concert, the Council has an informal social. Maestro Stephen Heyde joins us to give fascinating details about the composers and the pieces that will be performed at the concert. The Preview Parties, which serve as our General Council Meetings, are held throughout the community at businesses or in private homes. Help is needed to organize, serve, bring food, and tidy-up after each event. Michelle Sanders, VP Social

Patron Party – January 16, 2020. The Patron Party dinner is held before the January WSO concert to show appreciation to our members who purchase season tickets to the WSO concerts at a Patron level or higher. Assistance is needed in planning and organizing this event. Michelle Sanders, VP Social; Patron Party Chair-Laurinda Thorp

Youth and Education Programs

Belles and Brass – (Various dates for meetings – Presentation, March 21, 2020). Juniors from our area high schools are presented at the March WSO concert each spring. Girls (Belles) enroll as sophomores and continue through their junior year Presentation. Boys (Brass) enroll and serve their junior year. The program includes a multi-course etiquette dinner, leadership skills training. These young people are sponsored by their parents or grandparents who are WSO season ticket holders at the Sustainer Level or higher. Martha Kate Gunn and Leslie Rhea, VP Belles and Brass

Children’s Concert – November 2019. Each year the Baylor Symphony Orchestra holds several concerts in one day at Waco Hall to provide orchestral music in an age-appropriate event for all area 4th & 5th graders. WSC volunteers organize and coordinate with the area schools whose students might not otherwise have an opportunity to hear a live symphony orchestra in a concert hall. Assistance is needed at the concert. Lisa Alcorn, VP Youth and Education; Children’s Concert Chair-TBD

Nutcracker Ballet – December 2019. Once every two years the Council coordinates auditions in early fall for our young area dancers performing with the professional ballet company which presents the well-loved Nutcracker Ballet. We also assist with the sale of nutcrackers at the concert. Assistance is needed at the concert. Lisa Alcorn, VP Youth and Education; Nutcracker Chair-TBD

Fundraising

“Symphony of the City” – February 2020. The WSC will again present this exciting fundraiser featuring fine art and architecture in and around Waco. Assistance is needed to organize and execute the event. Glenda Strum, VP Fundraising; Catherin Campbell and Beth Badeaux, Chairs
